Yin Yoga

My Yin yoga classes are designed for beginners and advanced practitioners of all ages and fitness levels.

The aim of Yin yoga is to achieve a state of well-being and deep relaxation, through work based on breathing and extreme muscular relaxation. It differs from other yoga practices in that it focuses more on mental and muscular ‘letting go’.

What is Yin Yoga ?

This is a new form of yoga, inspired by Chinese medicine and work on the meridians. It is a beneficial complement to any other type of yoga, as well as to any other sporting discipline.

The time spent in each posture, the quest for total immobility and letting go (including of the muscles) are the watchwords of Yin Yoga. When you relax your muscles and slow down your movements to a static state, you often find yourself confronted with a problem other than flexibility: your train of thought, which is hard to interrupt! This form of yoga allows you to work on your mind and learn to discipline it.

Who is Yin Yoga for ?

Yin yoga is for everyone. Whatever your age or level of fitness, Yin yoga makes no demands in terms of muscular strength or flexibility.

Yin yoga is therefore suitable for beginners. It is also suitable for people who need to relieve stress and forget the problems of everyday life, thanks to an extreme muscular and mental release that leads to deep relaxation.

The benefits of Yin Yoga

A Yin yoga session is beneficial on several levels:

  • loosening up and reducing tension: the Yin yoga postures relax the muscles and make the whole body more supple; the longer duration of each posture has a beneficial effect on connective tissue and joints, preventing injury.
  • relieving stress by ‘letting go’: the deep bodily relaxation induced by the Yin yoga postures has a beneficial effect on the practitioner’s mental state. As the body and mind are intimately linked, extreme physical relaxation leads to mental relaxation and the release of accumulated stress and tension.
  • achieving serenity through emptiness: the notion of emptiness is positive in the East. Emptying oneself through the Yin yoga postures allows you to regenerate both physically and mentally. This explains why we often leave a Yin yoga session feeling soothed, serene and completely ‘cleansed’, both in body and mind.
