What is Hatha Yoga?

Hatha yoga is a form of yoga that originated in India in the 12th century. Hatha yoga is the traditional form of yoga, based on the breath. It develops breath control and stability in the postures (asanas). A Hatha yoga session generally ends with a moment of relaxation.

Hatha yoga allows you to take the time to feel each posture and to approach yoga in a meditative way. The various postures are performed gently and in accordance with a philosophy of non-violence towards the body.

Who is Hatha Yoga for?

Hatha yoga is suitable for a wide range of people. It’s easy for anyone to learn, whatever their physical condition.

Hatha yoga is therefore an ideal discipline for beginners, as it requires no special physical training and allows the body to free itself from stress through relaxation.

The benefits of Hatha Yoga

A session of Hatha yoga is beneficial on several levels:

  • Muscular relaxation: the postures (asanas) gently and progressively stretch the muscles. For people suffering from muscular or joint tension, the relaxation induced by regular practice of Hatha yoga helps to relieve and soothe this type of pain.
  • Massage of the internal organs: the postures performed during a Hatha yoga session, along with the breathing movements, provide a deep massage of the internal organs. They encourage blood circulation in parts of the body that are rarely used in everyday life and/or are subject to tension.
  • strengthening the link between body and mind: the muscular control work carried out during each posture (asana) enables the practitioner to understand the architecture of his or her body and to learn, through concentration, to better feel and control each part of the body.

“ Yoga doesn’t just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees. ”
